It will no longer be possible operationally or strategically to ignore the information-based virtual value chains for any business. This paper reviews the scope, current applications, and the potentials of electronic commerce. It also develops a framework for identifying the significant opportunities and important research issues associated with electronic commerce. The emphasis is on taking an interdisciplinary view that integrates technology and business models.

The United Arab Emirates had declared BlackBerry smartphones a potential threat to national security, saying the devices operate beyond the jurisdiction of national laws and are open to misuse.
The major controversy over the Blackberry in the UAE. A year ago, the Middle East country’s biggest state-run mobile operator was caught encouraging unwitting BlackBerry users to install software on the devices that could be allow outsider to peer insides. The government had never made fully clear what happened in that case.
In this latest flap of Blackberry, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority voiced fears that the BlackBerry manages data in a way that could allow it to be misused. BlackBerry devices were singled out because they are the only phone operating in the country that automatically relay users information to privately managed data centers overseas.

India has come up with the world’s cheapest “laptop” a touch-screen computing device that costs $35.
India’s HRD Minister Kapil Sibal this week unveiled the low-cost computing device that is designed for students in IIT, saying his department had started talks with global manufacturers to start mass of production.
